I'm a writer and creator, and yes, that hyphen in the URL drives me bananas.

About Me

6 things you might miss on my résumé

Obviously, I’d like you to check out my résumé (that’s why you’re here, right?). But before—or after—you do, here are a few items I’d like to highlight.

P.S.: In case you prefer it to a standard résumé, here’s my LinkedIn.

I’VE SPENT MORE OF MY PROFESSIONAL LIFE WORKING REMOTELY THAN IN OFFICES

Yes, I’m in sweats. But whether the rest of my team is across town or on the other side of the country, I pull my weight. Freelance or full time, I’m nailing deadlines, keeping track of my time, and staying connected via Slack, Google Docs, and other online tools.

I COAUTHORED A BOOK WHILE I WAS IN GRADUATE SCHOOL

And I’m not going to say it predicted today’s profound divisions in the Republican Party or the triumph of provocation over civilized debate, but… let’s just say for a project that was completed during the 2012 presidential campaign, it’s surprisingly relevant. You can learn more about it on the Princeton University Press site. I’m also happy to share an excerpt, if you’re interested in a comparative case study of what sociologists call culture-in-action.

I’M NOT A DOCTOR, BUT I’VE PLAYED ONE ON THE INTERNET

I’ve got substantial experience writing website copy, blog posts, landing pages, email newsletters, and more for practitioners in areas including ambulatory surgery, aesthetic medicine, dentistry, audiology, and internal medicine. These aren’t bylined—or at least, not to me—but if you would like to see examples of this type of work, I’m glad to provide them.

I’VE GOT MEDIA TRAINING

And just to clear things up, yes, I wrote a book about conservatives and yes, this is a still of me being a talking head on Fox News, but trust me, I’m as blue state as they come.

(Also the website I’m promoting here no longer exists, and I have no idea why they put it in quotes.)

I’M AN AVID DIYer

The little crocheted elephant in the lower left corner of that book cover? That’s my pattern! (And that’s my self-deprecating contributor blurb.) But yeah—I’ve got crazy crochet skills. I mostly stitch for friends and family, but when I’m feeling more ambitious, I design patterns. I’m also proficient in other kinds of needlecraft. Crewelwork, needlepoint, freehand embroidery; basically everything but knitting. (I can knit, but I’m terrible at it! Knitting is my crafting blindspot.)

I’m also into running, gardening, reading, and dog-owning—and if anything around the house breaks, I’m going to fix it.

IT TURNS OUT I’M NOT THE ONLY KATE WOOD

Yes, someone beat me to the URL (hence the irksome hyphen), but I beat everyone else to Gmail—you can contact me at katewood [at] gmail [dot] com.

The downside? You wouldn’t believe how many emails I get on a daily basis for people with the same first and last name. So make sure you’ve got the right address, because I’d love to hear from you!
